Carmen Granda Garzón was born on November 28, 1950. Carmen has a deep passion for art, which she uses as a medium to express emotions that words often fail to capture. She takes pride in her artistic heritage, passed down from ancestors who excelled in various creative disciplines.

In 1983, Carmen earned a degree in Business Engineering from the Ecuadorian Technological University. From 1984 to 1996, she worked in the banking sector in her city. Between 1990 and 1993, she attended drawing and oil painting workshops under the guidance of the distinguished Ecuadorian teacher Joaquín Endara Ruiz. From 2021 to 2022, she continued to refine her artistic skills under the mentorship of Ecuadorian teachers Juan Carlos Palacios and Ruth Montenegro.

Her artistic journey began with a group exhibition in 1993 at the Sheraton Hotel in Quito, organized by Taller JER. She followed this with another group exhibition in 1995 at the House of Culture in Ecuador, also through Taller JER. In 2022, Carmen participated in the “Icons of Our Land” exhibition organized by Sociedad Artística Magnos Eventos Internacionales in Chile, as well as the International Exhibition Uniáo de Talentos during the June Festivals Arte Gral in Brazil. As the author of two books and the publisher of over 52 works by children from diverse backgrounds. AlMheri’s mission is to promote education, financial literacy, and emotional resilience through narrative. Her initiatives, such as ‘’Books from Children to Children’’ foster creativity and self- expression among youth while addressing crucial social issues like diversity, inclusion, and emotional well-being.

AIDhabi is passionate about empowering children, promoting sustainability, and advocating for them with additional needs. Her achievements include publishing over 50 books and participating in more than 35 global initiatives. She’s also an advocate for emerging child authors, encouraging children to write books in both Arabic and English.

Despite her young age, AlDhabi is already a mentor, having been guided by Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, Al Dhabi passes on her meets. Through public speaking engagements and workshops, she inspires young people to dream big and pursuers their goals while offering practical guidance on achieving success. and she recently grimly believe radiated from Georgetown University’s Win Fellowship program in collaboration with the Atlantic Council.

    In addition to her work in literature, she is a passionate advocate for children with further desires, ensuring that their voices are amplified and their unique talents are recognized and nurtured. Her enthusiasm for finance has also driven her entrepreneurial ventures, making her a role model for young aspiring business leaders.

“I believe that what inspires me to continue my story is the empowerment I receive, including the empowerment I gain from Her Highness Sheikha Fathima bint Mubarak. Our government and wise leadership have already opened the doors to us. We don’t even need to knock!”

Through initiatives like “Books from children to children “and ‘Eco club”, AlDhabi empowers young minds to explore issues like climate change and sustainability. ALMheiri’s commitment to education and personal development is exemplified by her academic achievements. She graduated as Fellow as a Fellow from Georgetown university’s School of Business in 2024. In collaboration with the US Mission to the UAE,and successfully completed the Entrepreneurship Program offered by Google and the UAE Ministry of Economy.

Al Ain-based Emirati AlDhabi AlMheiri read 1,200 books by the age of six. She eventually turned her hobby into a business proposition by launching a children-focused online platform.                                               

Hobby led to a business idea

Adding on, AlDhabi says, “I love running Rainbow Chimney, it’s a lot of fun.” The things that she loves doing the most are packing the boxes with books, toys and stationery, based on selection that includes gender, age, interest as well as special needs if any. Then she places labels and price tags on the boxes often with a handwritten note. She is also learning to catalogue books and toys, checking each item before they go online.

“AlDhabi is very curious by nature. I realised this when she was barely two years old and started reading to her using the phonics methodology,” said AlDhabi’s mother Mouza AlDarmaki.

“A few years ago, we were in a mall and AlDhabi insisted on buying a toy. I thought it was an opportune moment to explain her the difference between want and need. Thankfully she understood that she didn’t need that toy, it was only a want that could wait. Now she teaches the same principle to her younger siblings. It’s important to teach children the value of money. It’s because we started teaching her simple money management principles that today AlDhabi knows that she can buy one book for Dh50 or even three with the same amount, it’s a matter of choice. In fact, now whatever money she earns as reward from family members she reinvests into the business. We also follow another ground rule of never taking any item for free from Rainbow Chimney even if it’s our own business,” AlDarmaki shares.

Even before setting up Rainbow Chimney, AlDhabi was fond of handpicking and packing gifts, mostly books and toys, for her cousins and friends. Seeing AlDhabi’s genuine interest to read and how she encouraged others to read, her parents decided to support her to set up Rainbow Chimney with an initial capital of Dh8,000.

“We wanted AlDhabi to test out her idea by creating a minimum viable product, personalised boxes offering educational aids in this case. We started with slightly over 100 titles and two to three books under each title. My husband and I agreed that if the proposition works well, we will support AlDhabi with more investment until the business becomes self-sustaining. So, when we started receiving positive feedback from customers, we invested more money. As of now, we have invested a total of AED480,000 to grow Rainbow Chimney, and we constantly reinvest earnings from the business into the business,” AlDarmaki shares.

“Give children the independence to choose and pursue what they like,” AlDarmaki says. “Having the independence to choose will bring out their innate potential. It will also prepare them to make choices independently – be that completing homework or pursuing a certain career later in life. As parents we can guide them along the way, support them but not impose our decisions on them. AlDhabi loves to read, write, colour and at the same time she is learning coding because she wants to. It’s important to realise that a child is not a copy of their parents. They are individuals and must develop their own characteristics, interests and ultimately carve out their own life.”

Barbara Maresti, an eclectic and multifaceted artist, was born on July 7, 1967, in Milan, but moved to Rome at the age of seven, following her parents’ careers in theatre. From an early age, she was immersed in the vibrant cultural life of the Italian capital, which shaped her artistic sensibilities. She pursued her education at the Liceo Artistico and later at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, where she graduated as a graphic designer. However, her artistic curiosity soon led her beyond the confines of graphic design, into the realm of visual arts and poetry.

Barbara’s early artistic experiments culminated in a unique style she termed Soqquadri – a fusion of recycled materials, photographic collages, and vibrant acrylic paints. Her creative process involves layering these elements into tactile, textured compositions. Each piece is a visual representation of her philosophy, merging the traditional with the experimental, creating artworks that are both expressive and environmentally conscious.

Alongside her visual art, Barbara’s passion for the written word grew, particularly in the form of poetry. She began participating in various poetry competitions and events focused on visual poetry, where her work gained widespread recognition. In 2018, she published her first collection of poetry titled Le Impronte della Vita (The Footprints of Life), which marked the beginning of a harmonious union between her art and poetry.

In recent years, Barbara has combined her two creative outlets—poetry and painting—into a singular, cohesive form. Her “Quadri Poetici” (Poetic Paintings) reflect this synthesis, where her written word becomes the conceptual core of each artwork, offering the viewer a dual experience of visual and verbal narrative. These poetic paintings explore themes of identity, human emotion, and societal issues, providing a deeper emotional resonance to her visual compositions.

Barbara’s artistic evolution did not stop with painting and poetry. She ventured into fashion, creating “Outfits d’Artista” (Artist’s Outfits) as an extension of her artistic identity. These garments, often vintage pieces such as jackets, vests, and dresses, are reimagined through her painterly touch. Her REDESIGN collection weaves poetry into the fabric of fashion, with each piece becoming a canvas for her words and images. Her collections have been featured at high-profile events, including the “Red Carpet dell’Arte” at the Area Contesa Gallery on Via Margutta in Rome.

Barbara’s work is deeply intertwined with her commitment to social causes. For the victims of the Morandi Bridge disaster, she designed the Phoenix graphic, a symbol of resilience and rebirth, which was printed on clothing sold for charity. She has also supported anti-bullying campaigns through her artworks, such as her involvement in the NO-BULLYING event at the ATAC vintage car depot in Rome, where she showcased clothing inspired by her poetry addressing bullying in schools. Her painting Le Ali di Icaro (The Wings of Icarus), exhibited at this event, echoed the theme of overcoming limitations and breaking free from societal constraints.

Barbara’s artistic journey has taken her to numerous prestigious exhibitions. In early 2019, she reconnected with her Milanese roots, participating in three major exhibitions at the historic Milano Art Gallery. These shows were curated by prominent figures such as Salvo Nugnes, Nicoletta Rossotti, and internationally renowned photographer Roberto Villa. In Rome, she continues to exhibit with the Focus Group Art collective and has become a regular participant in events at prominent galleries such as Neumen at the Colosseum.

Collaborating with emerging fashion designers, Barbara merges her poetry and art into wearable pieces. Together with designer Lucrezia Matola Ruschena, she created the Universo collection, featuring seven unique garments inspired by her poetry. Barbara’s creativity transcends traditional mediums, extending into performance art through body painting. She has participated in several high-profile events, including the presentation of Liliana Manetti’s book La Nuova Favola di Amore e Psiche, where she created the Loto body painting for actress Chiara Pavoni’s performance. Other notable works include body paintings for events such as the Red Carpet dell’Arte in Rome and Profondo Blu, where her piece Dentro l’Onda (Inside the Wave) was displayed.

Her ability to merge art, poetry, and performance continues to captivate audiences, offering a dynamic, immersive experience that reflects her multifaceted creative nature.

In 2020, Barbara expanded her work in fashion through socially conscious art. Her Baba’s Zoo collection features hand-painted garments inspired by animals, divided into thematic lines like Happy Farm (farm animals), Cani e Gatti in Società (pets in society), and The Unloved (insects and beetles as symbols against discrimination). In 2021, her designs were showcased at the Miss Reginetta finals in Rome, worn by the young contestants. Her fashion work continued to gain recognition, with her creations featured during Milan Fashion Week in 2022 and 2023, where her pieces, inspired by themes from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, were met with great acclaim.

Barbara Maresti’s contributions to the Panorama International Arts Festival have been particularly noteworthy. For three consecutive years, she has presented her works at the festival, winning prestigious awards in 2022 and 2023 for her mixed media pieces made from recycled materials. Her socially engaged works were also featured at an exhibition organized by Caritas Roma, where they were later included in the official Caritas calendar.

In 2024, Barbara continues her artistic evolution, showcasing a sculptural piece titled Bruciando al Sole (Burning in the Sun) at the Panorama International Arts Festival. The artwork, dedicated to the theme of fire, captures her ongoing exploration of the emotional and symbolic power of nature’s elements.
