Martha Kollia: A Journey Through Art and Cultural Expression

Martha Kollia, born in the vibrant city of Komotini, Greece, currently resides in the historical locale of Corinth. With a background that merges her passion for art and a commitment to cultural initiatives, she stands out as a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene.

Kollia’s academic journey began at a six-grade high school, followed by her studies at the esteemed Borgias Fine Art School. This foundation provided her with the skills and inspiration to explore the depths of artistic expression. Over the years, she has actively participated in numerous group exhibitions, showcasing her works in various prestigious venues.

One of her notable presentations took place at the Cultural Center of P. Faliro, where she displayed her thesis works at the “Melina Mercouri” exhibition in Athens. This event was part of a collective action by the Athens Municipality, in collaboration with Athens Voice, commemorating “200 Years Since the Greek War of Independence. And Afterwards?” Such participation reflects Kollia’s dedication to engaging with her country’s rich history through art.

Her artistic repertoire extends beyond this significant exhibition. She has showcased her work at the Alexandreio Conference Center in Loutraki, under the auspices of the Military Museum and Dimitris Pantazidis. Other exhibitions include the prestigious Chili Art Gallery and Luminys Eye, both in Athens, as well as the Free Art Space in Derveni, Corinth, which operates under UNESCO’s auspices. Her participation in the Peloponnesian International Film Festival “Bridges” in Corinth and the Municipal Library of Piraeus, themed “Piraeus: Sea and Ship: 3000 Years of Blue and White Aegean,” further highlights her versatility and engagement with various artistic communities.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Martha Kollia is also an executive member at the Writers Capital International Foundation. Her involvement in this organization signifies her commitment to promoting literature and art on a global scale. As a delegate at the Global Vision Summit 2024, held at the Cultural Centre Melina Merkouri under the auspices of the Region of Attica, she actively contributed to discussions that bridge cultural narratives and artistic expressions.

Kollia is set to participate in the “Panorama International Literature Festival: 2024,” where she will present a video titled “The Goddess, Fire,” inspired by her poignant painting “The Tears of Evros.” This presentation will be showcased throughout the festival, running from August 1-31, 2024, allowing her to share her unique perspective on art and its intersection with cultural themes.

Through her dedication to art, education, and cultural dialogue, Martha Kollia embodies the spirit of contemporary Greek artists, bringing to life narratives that resonate with both local and global audiences. Her journey is a testament to the power of art in connecting people and fostering understanding across diverse cultures. As she continues to explore new avenues of expression, Kollia remains a vital contributor to the artistic landscape, inspiring future generations with her creativity and passion.
