Born in the vibrant city of Athens, Dimitris Stefanou Karousis embarked on a journey intertwined with poetry, literature, and the tumultuous waves of life. From his early years as an elementary school student, Dimitrios displayed a profound inclination towards the world of poetry and literature. However, his passion remained veiled, shrouded by socio-political conditions, including the dictatorship era and the challenges of survival.
Graduating from the 2nd Financial High School of Athens and the School of Maritime Studies in Piraeus, Dimitris’ love for the open sea beckoned him to serve in the Navy, where he found solace and inspiration amidst the vast expanse of the ocean. Upon returning ashore, armed with experiences from the sea and a thirst for knowledge, Dimitris pursued further studies in economics in Manchester, England.
Dimitris’ journey unfolded beyond the maritime realm as he delved into intense political and social activities upon his return to Greece. His career path led him through various private companies in Greece and abroad, where he served as an executive until his retirement, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in the face of life’s challenges.
Tragedy struck Dimitris with the untimely death of his wife, leaving him to raise and educate their three sons single-handedly. Amidst the trials and responsibilities of life, Dimitris found solace and expression through his poetic endeavors, channeling his emotions and experiences into verse.
A distinguished member of the Association of Greek Litterateurs (EEL), the Panhellenic Society of Letters and Art (PELT), and the Society of Greek Writers (EEL), Dimitris has left an indelible mark on the literary landscape. He has authored seven collections of poetry, each bearing witness to his deep connection with the sea, society, and the human experience.
Among his accolades, Dimitris has been honored with various literary awards, including the prestigious Golden PANORAMA International Literature Award by Writers Capital International Foundation in 2022 and the Golden Book Award 2023 for his bilingual poetry collection titled “Flaming Sea”. His latest poetry collections, published in English, Greek, and Spanish by the Writers’ International Edition Publishing House, serve as a testament to his enduring passion and literary craftsmanship.
